Cleaning and Organizing for a New Year

Happy New Year! Starting out fresh this year, it’s a good time to clean out our sewing rooms and get things organized for the many projects just waiting to be created.

One way to keep track of your projects is with the 2024 Sew and Stitch Binder Calendar. I’ve personalized mine with a quilted cover and label. It is perfect to write all the particulars of each project you make and to maybe add a photo or two so you can always look back on what you created.

Keeping with the organization theme, it is a great time to go through your stash to see if you can purge anything and maybe donating it to your local Guild or a sewing enthusiast you know. That also goes for notions, threads, used patterns and anything else you think is in the clutter category. It is also nice to organize your fabric, so you are not over buying something similar.

I’ve seen people who cut down their extra fabric when they have completed a project into usable sized squares or strips. By placing them into labelled bins, you can quickly make a scrappy quilt by just pulling out already cut pieces. I know Lori Holt has many videos on how to do this and we all know she can put together gorgeous quilts with her scraps.

I hope this gives you a few ideas on how to organize your sewing room. Now you will be ready to start new quilt a longs and stitch a longs.

Thank you to all for your trust and patronage and as always …

Keep sewing, keep stitching!
